Visit the Townsville Amnesty Group’s stall at Eco Fiesta.
Eco Fiesta is an annual celebration of the earth, its peoples and our environment. This year’s festival will focus on pollinators and their importance to the community.
Our stall will feature stories and displays that will help visitors to the stall identify with victims of human rights abuse. We will focus on stories of people who are persecuted because they are campaigning on environmental issues such as destruction of rainforests and other important butterfly habitats.
We will also have a children’s activity based on the book “Saving the butterfly – a story about refugees”. This is a poetic, powerful story about a little brother and a big sister finding a new home and new hope after being rescued from a boat lost in the dark sea. Visitors to the stall will be invited to fold origami butterflies which will be incorporated into a message of solidarity and support to environmental defenders.
