A 15-year-old girl has been locked up in Indonesia for having an abortion after being raped by her brother.
She has been sentenced to six months in prison and her mother is also facing charges for helping her secure the abortion. In Indonesia, abortion is only allowed in very limited circumstances and women who have illegal abortions face up to four years in jail.
Her brother admitted to raping her and threatening to beat her when she refused his advances. He has been sentenced to two years in prison.
None of this is her fault. She has been through something that no one should ever have to experience — she must be supported, not punished.
Child and women’s rights activists in Indonesia have now filed an official complaint against the decision to imprison her.
There is a movement rising to free her. Will you be part of it?
Tell the Indonesian authorities to release her immediately and to decriminalise abortion in all circumstances in Indonesia.
