Israel has been and is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
More than 48,000 people have been killed, including over 13,319 children, and 90% of the population has been forcibly displaced. Entire families have been wiped out in airstrikes. Hospitals, schools, and homes have been deliberately destroyed. Now, after the expiration of the first phase of the deal, Israel has once again prevented aid from entering Gaza with starvation being used as a weapon of war.
In the latest escalation on the night of the 17th of March 2025, over 414 Palestinians have been killed, including 174 children, as Israel broke the ceasefire agreement and resumed mass attacks. This deliberate violation of the ceasefire has plunged Gaza back into relentless bombardment, further deepening the humanitarian catastrophe, cutting off already scarce aid, and pushing the population into even more unimaginable suffering.
Amnesty International’s groundbreaking report, “You Feel Like You Are Subhuman: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza,“ presents overwhelming evidence that Israel’s actions meet the legal definition of genocide under international law. The report concludes that Israel is committing at least three prohibited acts under the Genocide Convention:
- Killing Palestinians in Gaza
- Inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the group’s physical destruction
- Causing serious bodily and mental harm
Even if a permanent ceasefire is reached, genocide does not stop until all deliberate acts of destruction end. The ceasefire is being implemented in stages, and it will take time to monitor and reassess the situation. The flow of humanitarian aid must be urgently restored, along with access to food and medicines, as well as the restoration of health and sanitation facilities.
The International Criminal Court has issues arrest warrants for Yoav Gallant and Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes and lifting the unlawful restrictions on freedom of movement, ceasing the practice and policies leading to forcible transfers of civilians and ending all forms of torture and other ill-treatment of Palestinian prisoners of Gaza are also essential steps towards ending the genocide.
Australia must act now.
Under international law, governments have an obligation to prevent and punish genocide. But Australia is failing in its responsibility. By continuing military cooperation with Israel and refusing to hold it accountable, our government is complicit.
Email your MP now and demand urgent action.
Demand them to:
- Publicly acknowledge Amnesty’s genocide findings and call this what it is: genocide.
- Demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire to stop the mass killings and destruction.
- End all military cooperation and arms sales to Israel to prevent complicity in war crimes.
- Support international investigations and accountability measures, including at the International Criminal Court and UN forums.
- Pressure Israel to restore the flow of humanitarian aid, ensure unrestricted access to food and medicine, and fully restore Gaza’s health facilities and sanitation services.
- Recognise and condemn Israel’s system of apartheid and its ongoing illegal occupation of Palestinian land, which are at the root of this crisis.
The Australian government must stand on the right side of history. Take action now—email your MP and demand justice for Palestinians.
