At 4pm on Sunday 20th August, Loosely Woven, consisting of 18 instrumentalists and singers, returns to Avalon with their brand-new concert, ‘Waltz for Jill’ in honour of former Loosely Woven member Jill Stubington who recently passed away.

The program includes Paul Kelly’s powerful ‘Sleep Australia Sleep’, two specifically anti-war songs – ‘Universal Soldier’ and Swtizerland’s recent Eurovision entry ‘Watergun’. And one of our members has set his own ‘anti greed’ words to ‘Gone to the moon’.

There will be a number of well-known songs including:

• Let it be (The Beatles) • Pink Shoelaces

• You’re the cream in my coffee

• It don’t mean a thing • One fine day (Puccini)

• A World of our Own (The Seekers) Some Australian songs:

• Drowning in old cliches (original song by our own Greg Thomas)

• Dancing Shoes (Archie Roach) • From the lambing to the wool (Judy Small)

• Nobody’s Moggy Now (Eric Bogle) Some lesser known songs:

• Watergun (Switzerland’s entry into this year’s Eurovision)

• Con Amores, La Mi Madre • Johnny I hardly knew ye

• Nobody loves a fairy when she’s 40

• I’m on fire • Happy Young Heart (Gilbert & Sullivan’s ‘The Sorcerer’)

• O Carolan’s Welcome Instruments this time will include violins, flute, recorder, trumpet, harmonium, concertina, harp, guitars, keyboard and percussion.

Drinks and biscuits will be supplied.

The concert is free but donations to Amnesty are welcome.
