We’re for all people in Australia

Amnesty works closely with Indigenous communities and people seeking asylum to fight discrimination, unfair detention and to demand safety and a fair justice system for all. We also have a very active women’s and LGBTI activist networks campaigning on important gender and sexuality issues.

We put pressure on the Australian government to adopt laws that respect the human rights of all our citizens and to meet our international human rights obligations.

In Australia we focus on these core campaigns
Indigenous Campaigns

If you’re an Indigenous child, you’re 24 times more likely to be imprisoned than your non-Indigenous classmates. Amnesty’s ‘Community is Everything’ campaign aims to end this inequality.

Refugees

Amnesty works tirelessly to protect the safety of the millions of people who are forced to flee their homes to escape war, genocide, torture and persecution.

Gender and sexuality

All over the world, governments are trying to dictate who we can kiss, who we should love, how we must dress, how we identify ourselves, when we have children and how many we should have. Women continue to be subject to violence in all countries.

How we protect human rights

Rights belong to every one of us – but are abused or denied every single day. When this happens, we search out the facts, expose what’s happening and rally people together to pressure governments and others to respect human rights.
