Amnesty at ANU brings you the photo exhibition titled ‘Humans of Refuge’ this Refugee Week 2018.
Often the only news we hear about refugees are filtered through statistics and political jargon. Eighteen-year-old Abdullah Sarwari seeks to put human faces to those stories. Abdullah has been waiting in Indonesia as a refugee for three and a half years. In that time, he helped found a learning centre for refugee children and has documented refugee stories through his camera.

The exhibition features the community from the documentary film ‘The Staging Post’. In the film, the refugees inspired a refugee-led education revolution in Indonesia. There are now over 1500 students learning at 10 refugee-led schools, taught by around 100 volunteer refugee teachers.
The film screened at sold-out cinemas across Australia and, through community support and word-of-mouth, became the 14th biggest Australian Documentary at the Australian Box Office in 2017.
The exhibition will remain until Friday 6th July.
