Join the Amnesty International Australia Gold Coast group at the Gold Coast community forum and call for Federal leadership to address the overrepresentation of Indigenous kids in Australian detention centres.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children make up half of all children in Australia’s youth detention centres. As witnessed at Don Dale, Indigenous kids are being mistreated in our youth justice system.

Every kid deserves to enjoy the freedom of childhood, surrounded by their family and community. No child should be behind bars, in brutal conditions.

The release of the Northern Territory Royal Commission’s final report, due on November 17, provides a once in a generation opportunity for the Federal government to take a leadership role, form a national plan of action to reduce the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids in detention.

The forum will educate and engage the public on the issue, The forum will also feature Indigenous and non-Indigenous speakers, including those with experience working in the youth justice system. A representative from the office Stephen Ciobo MP, member of the House of Representatives for the division of Moncrieff, will also attend.
